History of the Center for School and Educational Research (ZSB)
The Center for School and Educational Research (ZSB) is an interdisciplinary academic center of the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg and was founded in May 1994 under the name the Center for School Research and Questions of Teacher Training (ZSL). While it was in its first years as much a research institute as it was an advisory and coordination center for questions regarding teacher training, the function of the center has in recent years, due to the establishment of an independent Center for Teacher Training (ZLB), clearly shifted in the direction of foundation-oriented educational research.
Since its establishment, the research-methodical profile of the ZSB has exhibited a qualitative emphasis complemented by quantitative research and triangulation methods. So far, numerous projects have been successfully promoted, primarily through the support of the German Research Association (DFG), the Ministry of Culture/Education of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, and the European Union (Tempus).
Since the summer of 2002, the ZSB has been located on the premises of the Franckesche Stiftung. Its close proximity eases the intensive collaboration with other institutions based there, such as the department of Educational Sciences of the Martin Luther University, various schools, and the German Youth Institute.
